A bad trade is better than signing a flawed player to an overpriced contract. Should have never acquired him, but at least they didn't double down this time. Hoping this is the first of several moves.

Jury is still out on Zimmer (for me), but Spielman's incompetent handling of KFC and this offseason means he deserves to be fired.

As a Vikings fan since 1974, I am loyal and patient. But if Spielman is kept around and we let KFC leverage us for ANOTHER contract extension in 2022 (which is what his contract is set up for), I am done.

I hate KFC, he is a total loser who is overpaid and has set back the franchise for 3+ years -- we can't let him do that beyond this season.

Fire Spielman after season

Trade or cut KFC after the season

This is the same ownership group that fired Mike Tice after a 9-7 season with a terrible team. Do Rick and Zim have compromising photos of Zygi or what?

The Ngakoue trade(s) are another example why the Wilfs are whiffing with Chris Spielman making football decisions. Spielman throws darts at a board and occasionally hits a bulls-eye, but too many trades and draft choices are like what happen with Ngakoue—we may give up 60 slots in the draft by moving out of the second round into the third to have a guy play six games for us, of which five ended in losses. As one poster stated, Ngakoue has four seasons of game tape but our GM is surprised that he wasn’t good stopping the run? It’s time to empty the cupboard and unload veterans with value and hire a new GM after the season. I no longer trust Chris Spielman to make any football decisions. Neither should the Wilf family.

This whole matter only convinces me even more, as if it were possible, that Rick needs to go, and go now. Yannick has been in the NFL since 2016. He has 4 seasons of tape. It shouldn't surprise Ruminating Rick that Yannick can't stop the run. So we are losing 60ish places in the draft to rent a player for 6 games, 5 of which were losses, because Ruminating Rick so badly misjudged Yannick and his own team's ability to compete? Also, is this the best we could recoup for Yannick? Why the panic move? If we'd have waited until closer to the deadline, surely we could've gotten better. If we'd have tagged him after the season, surely we could've gotten better than losing 60ish places in the draft.

The trade for Yannick speaks panic, trading Yannick speaks panic. It's just rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic. This leadership team is dead and they don't know it yet. The Wilfs need to terminate Rick immediately before he completely wrecks the team trying to save his job.

"If you thought the bye week would be boring in Vikings land, you were sorely mistaken"

If you thought that you've never paid attention to a Vikings bye week ha!

Yep fire sale...Gotta move Reiff, Harris and Rudy IMO...maybe Theilan if you get a high pick, but his salary isn't terrible..just worried about age and rebuild. Also what about Smith, is he gonna want out, hes getting up there too.

Losing that second round pick is very difficult to stomach. That could have been viewed as a late first round pick given how bad we are. It’s hard not to question that trade in the first place, but at least we got something back.

Also, if Yannick walked after this year would we have gotten a compensatory 3rd round pick?

As you well know, this is the same GM who said "We have no intention of trading Stefon". Let's not freak out and think that he just committed to KC for the next 4 years. I do think it was a good move to Trade Ngakoue. It just didn't work, and getting the 3rd from Baltimore plus the conditional 5th is better than the compensatory 3rd (4th?) they would have gotten from him leaving, because as you mentioned, extending/tagging probably wouldn't be a good idea.

Great article Mathew.

I know Willekes is on IR but I think I missed the nature of the injury. Is he out for the entire season? It will be interesting to see if he can develop into a rotational DE in the future.

And of course, we've got Iloka tearing his ACL today in practice too. So Metullus should get more playing time regardless now, right?!
