You have me convinced. Penix is the pick. I had to buy a house during the boom. We made one offer for 40,000 over and another house 60,000 over asking and "lost" on both. The "winning" bids for both of those houses were 100,000 over asking. We eventually found a better house, paid asking price and got an inspection contingency that helped lower the price. We were able to do so because we found the right seller. Penix would be a great fit and could step in sooner than later. Plus, we don't need to give up two first round picks so we have more assets to build the team around him. If we move up to get JJ it feels like we are all in and if it doesn't work everyone is fired. If we stick and pick with Penix and DT and Penix fails that should not cost anyone their jobs.

Prescott's had a strong career so far, but what if he'd being thrown into the jersey swamps? Conversely, what would Wilson, Darnold or Sanchize have done if given the 2016 Cowboys OL, Zeke in his career season, and Bryant/Beasley/Witten? We can agree they would have looked better.

The context matters in how most QBs perform--after two years Josh Allen was on his was to Bortles-land. Maybe the offensive infrastructure at TCO Performance Centre is so good that any of these rookies will do well. But if that's the case, it's an argument against trading three no 1s, especially for a guy who has yet to show that he can "process and throw the football at a NFL level".

I think if we had to do that at 5 as Mel Kiper predicts, Iwould much rather give 4 first rounders to New England to get Mayes, if he available there. If not, I would let someone else get McCarthy. I would trade with Tennessee to get Penix.

Harbaugh thinks the Chargers get the equivalent of a number one pick at number five. I agree with him because of the stampede in the front for a franchise QB. If the Bolts give up number five it won't be cheap.
